Hamid Navid has graduated from Kabul University in 1971. In Afghanistan, he taught art history at the Department of Fine Arts and Journalism at Kabul University. He holds a degree in Arts and Humanities from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Hamid Navid has written stories and poetry in Dari and English. He has worked as a radio producer with Immortal Roles Radio and has hosted radio and television programs. Hamid Navid is currently writing a book on the history of Afghan art and several stories.
A screenplay was written based on some of his stories, and the Afghan film "Lori" or "My Daughter" directed by Saeed Orakzai is based on his story. Hamid Navid has also composed songs for a number of Afghan singers such as Ahmad Wali, Salma, Hengameh, Haider Salim, Ehsan Aman and others. Hamid Navid has been living in Virginia for 27 years.
