Biography
Dorkhanai Zahin was born in Kabul, Afghanistan. After completing high school, she was accepted into the Abu Ali Sina Medical Institute at Kabul State University. She later pursued studies in economics in Germany, and, after graduating in 1999, relocated to the United States. In the U.S., Dorkhanai expanded her education in New Media Art and Digital Media. She earned a bachelor’s degree in information technology with concentration on Cyber Security and Digital Media Project Management, graduating with "summa cum laude" from Texas A&M University at San Antonio. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in mass media at Texas State University. Dorkhanai has worked as an app developer, graphic designer, web designer, and instructional designer for Alamo Colleges in San Antonio. Fluent in Dari, Pashto, English, German, and Russian, she has built a diverse professional portfolio and contributed to the editing and translation of books in Dari, Pashto, and English. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dorkhanai is the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Lmar Magazine, which has been published in Dari and Pashto since January 2021. Her community contributions include founding and leading the Afghan Association of San Antonio, collaborating with “Doctors for Afghanistan,” and actively supporting educational initiatives in Afghanistan’s war-affected regions.
